NHL Hockey Players Are Supporters

I was reading my new “ESPN The Magazine,” and they relayed the results of a poll recently taken of NHL hockey players. One of the questions was: “Should Olympic athletes show support for gay rights while in Sochi?” The results were quite amazing. 88% of the players said “yes.” You wouldn’t say that unless you yourself were a supporter of gay rights. Book - The Persian Boy

I didn’t identify fully as gay until I was a freshman in college. I had been passionately in love with guys, but the overt sexual attraction was slow to develop. At that time there was no internet, and television had no gay characters, and so it was easy to feel confused about who I was. And then I read the book “The Persian Boy” by Mary Renault. John Andraka - Student Scientist

Our reader Hue-Man informed us of a wonderful story at "The New Civil Rights Movement." It's about 16-year-old John Andraka, an openly gay student who invented an inexpensive way of early detection of pancreatic cancer. He sat with Michelle Obama at the State Of the Union address earlier this year.

Roseanne Barr On Twitter

In the most recent “The Advocate,” editor Matthew Breen had a Twitter conversation with Roseanne Barr. They talked briefly about her 2008 run for President on the Peace and Freedom ticket. She said: “I…learned that ppl think opposing something is more powerful than supporting something, and that is incorrect and backwards.”
