Marriage Announcement!!!
Posted on October 24, 2013 at 11:15 AM |
It feels really good to be able to type that headline on a gay site!
As readers of The Backlot probably know, our reader and occasional contributing writer Ulysses Grant Dietz was married earlier this week! As I described in an earlier ShortCut, the New Jersey Supreme Court cleared the way for marriage equality in the state, beginning this past Monday. Ulysses and Gary, his partner of 38 years (they met in college at Yale) wasted little time in taking advantage of the opportunity, and did what they've obviously been wanting to do for many years.
Congratulations to Ulysses and Gary, and best wishes for many, many happy years together!

Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did that totally from memory, and since I know the rivalry between Harvard and Yale I hope you can forgive me!!!!
Ulysses Dietz says...
LOL. Actually, we met at Yale, but hey. Most romantic thing my (now) husband has ever done! Thanks. I didn't even know this was up here!

Ain't it grand?
And the smart thing to do, legally speaking. While there is a certain amount of protection in a civil union, a truly equal marriage assures that Uly and Gary will be able to take advantage of those 1000+ Federal benefits that a civil union will not provide.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
