The New Millennial Gay Experience

We don't talk much about HIV/AIDS any more. Today's teen and twenty-something gays just don't hear about it much, and therefore don't well understand it. But the disease is still lurking out there, waiting for the right situation to damage or destroy a life.
Brent Hartinger wants to help change that. Brent is the author of the Russel Middlebrook series of YA gay novels. His first, "Geography Club," was recently released as a movie. He was also co-founder of the site AfterElton.com, and he and his co-founder and partner Michael Jensen inspired me to become part of the gay online community, and then to create this site.
Brent has started the "Real Story Safe Sex Project," with help from Ty Nolan (an author himself, and known to AfterElton/Backlot readers as"Eagledancer." He kicked it off with a free short story he wrote featuring Russel Middlebrook. The hope is that other writers, artists and filmmakers will create their own works dealing with the HIV/AIDS issue among young people, and make them available free via the project. Readers can spread the word via social media links.
Check out the project here. And download (free!) and read Brent's short story. Good luck with the project, Brent!
